Getting a "certificate revoked" or "untrusted developer" error? This usually happens when you've hit Apple's limit of 3 certificates per Apple ID, or when a certificate expires. Here's how to fix it.

Why Certificates Get Revoked

  • Certificate limit reached — Free Apple Developer accounts are limited to 3 active certificates. If you try to create a 4th, Apple revokes one of your existing certificates.
  • Certificate expired — Development certificates expire after a certain period (usually 1 year for paid accounts, 7 days for free accounts).
  • Manual revocation — You or Apple may have manually revoked a certificate.
  • Account issues — Problems with your Apple Developer account can cause revocation.

How to Fix Revoked Certificate

Method 1: Revoke Old Certificates (Recommended)

If you've hit the 3-certificate limit, revoke certificates you no longer need:

  1. Open iLoader on your computer
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Go to Certificate Management or Certificates
  4. View your active certificates
  5. Select certificates you don't need (e.g., old devices, unused apps)
  6. Click Revoke to delete them
  7. Create a new certificate for your current device

Method 2: Reinstall Apps

If revocation happened due to expiration or other issues:

  1. Open iLoader
  2. Connect your device
  3. Reinstall SideStore or the affected apps
  4. iLoader will create a new certificate automatically

Method 3: Use a Different Apple ID

If you've exhausted certificates on one Apple ID:

  • Create a new Apple ID (or use an existing one)
  • Sign up for a free Apple Developer account with that ID
  • Use that Apple ID in iLoader for sideloading
  • Note: iLoader supports multiple Apple IDs, so you can switch between them

Preventing Certificate Revocation

  • Manage certificates regularly — Use iLoader to check and revoke unused certificates before hitting the limit.
  • Don't create unnecessary certificates — Only create certificates when needed for actual devices.
  • Use SideStore refresh — Let SideStore refresh apps automatically instead of reinstalling frequently.
  • Monitor certificate count — Keep track of how many certificates you have active.

Understanding Certificate Limits

Free Apple Developer Account

  • 3 certificates maximum per Apple ID
  • Certificates expire after 7 days (apps need refreshing)
  • When you create a 4th certificate, Apple automatically revokes one

See our Free Apple Developer Account Guide for more details.

Troubleshooting

  • "Unable to verify app" — Certificate was revoked. Reinstall the app with iLoader.
  • "Untrusted developer" — Go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management and trust the developer profile again.
  • Can't create new certificate — You've hit the 3-certificate limit. Revoke old ones first.
  • Apps stop working suddenly — Certificate may have been revoked. Check certificate status in iLoader.

Using iLoader for Certificate Management

iLoader makes certificate management easy:

  • View all active certificates
  • See which certificates are associated with which devices
  • Revoke certificates with one click
  • Create new certificates automatically when installing apps
  • Manage multiple Apple ID credentials

Download iLoader from our Download page to get started.
