AltStore

Certificate (Developer Certificate)
A digital certificate from Apple that allows you to sign and install apps on your device. With a free Apple Developer account you can have up to 3 certificates. Fix Revoked Certificate →
Developer Mode
A setting on iOS 16 and later that you must enable before sideloading. Found in Settings → Privacy & Security. Enable Developer Mode →
IPA (iOS App Store Package)
The file format for iOS apps. An .ipa file is the app package you install when sideloading. How to Install IPA on iPhone →
iLoader
A free, open-source desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Linux that installs SideStore on your device, manages certificates and pairing files, and sideloads IPA files. iLoader homepage →
Pairing File
A file that establishes trust between your computer and your iOS device. iLoader uses it to communicate with your device for installation and refresh. It can expire after iOS updates or long disuse.
Refresh

SideStore

Sideloading

usbmuxd
A service that allows your computer to talk to your iOS device over USB. On Windows it comes with iTunes; on macOS it's built in; on Linux you install it via your package manager.
