Sideloading with iLoader and SideStore means you need IPA files to install. Where should you get them, and how do you stay safe? This guide covers types of sources, what to trust, and how to sideload once you have an IPA.

Types of IPA Sources

  • Official project repos — Many open-source or community projects (e.g. uYou+, Delta, RetroArch) publish IPAs or build instructions on GitHub or their official sites. These are usually the safest: you can check code and release notes.
  • SideStore / AltStore sources — SideStore and similar apps can add “sources” (repos) that list apps and provide IPAs. Use only well-known, community-trusted sources.
  • Third-party catalogs — Some sites aggregate links to IPAs. Treat them with caution: verify that the IPA comes from the original project (e.g. same bundle ID, known developer) and that you’re not downloading malware or modified builds with unknown code.

Best Practices for Safety

  • Prefer official sources — Download from the project’s GitHub releases, official website, or a source that clearly points to them.
  • Avoid random “free IPA” sites — Many host modified or malicious IPAs. Stick to projects you can verify (open source, known maintainers).
  • Check the app after install — If an app asks for unnecessary permissions (e.g. full keychain access, location when it shouldn’t need it), remove it and find another source.
  • Use a throwaway or secondary Apple ID for sideloading if you’re worried about account risk (see iOS Sideloading Security).

What We Don’t Do

iLoader does not host or distribute IPA files. We provide the tool to install and manage SideStore and sideload IPAs you obtain elsewhere. We don’t link to specific third-party IPA catalogs because their contents and safety change over time. Always verify the source yourself.

After You Have an IPA

Once you’ve downloaded an IPA from a source you trust:

  1. Install or open iLoader and set up SideStore if you haven’t already (Getting Started).
  2. Connect your iPhone via USB, then in iLoader use Install IPA / Sideload IPA and select the .ipa file.
  3. Trust the developer in Settings → General → VPN & Device Management if prompted.
  4. Use SideStore to refresh the app before it expires (free accounts: about 7 days).

Legal and Ethical Notes

Only sideload apps you’re allowed to use. Don’t distribute or use pirated or cracked commercial apps. Prefer open-source and clearly licensed projects. For more context, see Is iOS Sideloading Legal?.
