🍎 macOS Installation Guide

Prerequisites

• macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later (including macOS 11 Big Sur, macOS 12 Monterey, macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 14 Sonoma, macOS 15 Sequoia)
• usbmuxd - Included with macOS (no installation needed)
• Administrator access - May be required for some operations
• USB cable - Compatible with your iOS device
• Internet connection - For downloading and initial setup

Step-by-Step Installation

1. Download iLoader:
   • Download the universal macOS disk image: iloader-darwin-universal.dmg
   • Note: The universal build works on both Intel Macs and Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3)
   • Or download the app bundle archive: iloader-darwin-universal.app.tar.gz
2. Install iLoader:
   • Open the downloaded DMG file
   • Drag iLoader to your Applications folder
   • If you see a security warning, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security
   • Click "Open Anyway" next to the iLoader message
   • Alternatively, right-click the app and select "Open" (this bypasses Gatekeeper once)
3. Launch iLoader:
   • Open iLoader from your Applications folder
   • If prompted, enter your administrator password
   • Grant necessary permissions when requested
4. Connect Your Device:
   • Connect your iOS device to your Mac via USB
   • If prompted on your device, tap "Trust This Computer"
   • Enter your device passcode if requested
   • Ensure your device is unlocked
5. Sign In and Install:
   • Sign in with your Apple ID in iLoader
   • Select your connected device
   • Choose "Install SideStore" and follow the prompts

macOS-Specific Troubleshooting

• "App can't be opened" error: Right-click the app, select "Open", then click "Open" in the dialog. This bypasses Gatekeeper for unsigned apps.
• Device not detected: Ensure your device is unlocked and trusted. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable.
• Permission denied: Grant Full Disk Access to Terminal or iLoader in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access.
• Apple Silicon compatibility: If you have an Intel Mac, make sure you downloaded the x64 version, not the aarch64 version.
• usbmuxd not found: This is rare, but if it happens, install Xcode Command Line Tools: xcode-select --install

Prerequisites

• Linux distribution: Ubuntu 18.04+, Debian 10+, Fedora 30+, Arch Linux, or similar
• usbmuxd: Install via your package manager (see commands below)
• libimobiledevice: Usually installed with usbmuxd
• USB cable: Compatible with your iOS device
• Internet connection: For downloading and initial setup
• sudo/root access: Required for installing dependencies

Install usbmuxd

Install usbmuxd using your distribution's package manager:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install usbmuxd libimobiledevice6 libimobiledevice-utils

sudo dnf install usbmuxd libimobiledevice

sudo pacman -S usbmuxd libimobiledevice

sudo zypper install usbmuxd libimobiledevice

Step-by-Step Installation

1. Install Dependencies:
   • Install usbmuxd using the commands above for your distribution
   • Verify installation: which idevice_id (should return a path)
   • Start usbmuxd service: sudo systemctl start usbmuxd (if needed)
2. Download iLoader:
   • Choose the appropriate format for your distribution:
     • AppImage (Recommended): iloader-linux-amd64.AppImage - Works on most distributions
     • Debian/Ubuntu: iloader-linux-amd64.deb
     • Fedora/RHEL: iloader-linux-x86_64.rpm
3. Install iLoader:

   AppImage (Recommended):

   chmod +x iloader-*.AppImage
   ./iloader-*.AppImage

   Debian/Ubuntu (.deb):

   sudo dpkg -i iloader-*.deb
   sudo apt-get install -f  # Install dependencies if needed

   Fedora/RHEL (.rpm):

   sudo dnf install iloader-*.rpm

4. Launch iLoader:
   • If using AppImage, run it directly: ./iloader-*.AppImage
   • If installed via package manager, launch from your application menu
   • Or run from terminal: iloader
5. Connect Your Device:
   • Connect your iOS device to your computer via USB
   • If prompted on your device, tap "Trust This Computer"
   • Enter your device passcode if requested
   • Ensure your device is unlocked
   • Verify connection: idevice_id -l (should list your device UDID)
6. Sign In and Install:
   • Sign in with your Apple ID in iLoader
   • Select your connected device
   • Choose "Install SideStore" and follow the prompts

Linux-Specific Troubleshooting

• Device not detected: Ensure usbmuxd is running: sudo systemctl status usbmuxd. Start it with: sudo systemctl start usbmuxd
• Permission denied: Add your user to the plugdev group: sudo usermod -a -G plugdev $USER, then log out and back in.
• udev rules: Some distributions require udev rules. Install libimobiledevice-utils which usually includes them.
• AppImage won't run: Make sure it's executable: chmod +x iloader-*.AppImage. Some distributions may need FUSE installed.
• Missing dependencies: Install required libraries: sudo apt install libfuse2 (Ubuntu 22.04+) or equivalent for your distribution.
• USB permissions: If device isn't detected, try running iLoader with sudo (not recommended long-term, but useful for testing).
